Greenwich Silver Shield Association Receives Donation from Fairway Market

Fairway Market’s Executive Chairman Charles Santoro presented a $5,000 check to the Greenwich Police Department Silver Shield Association on Friday afternoon.

The money will go toward a new 9/11 memorial to honor the 26 Greenwich residents who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks. Fairway held a special shopping night on Sept. 25, in which 25 percent of all proceeds were donated to the memorial effort.

The check presentation was made by Santoro, a Greenwich resident, to Sgt. Brent Reeves, Silver Shield president, at the store, 699 Canal St., Stamford.

The plan is to custom paint a Harley Davidson motorcycle, which the police officers won in a raffle held during America’s 9/11 Ride in 2011 and include the names of the 26 who were killed on September 11, 2001.  The bike, which will also honor all the first responders of that day, will then be placed in the lobby of the public safety complex for the public to view.
