Greenwich Teen To Compete in Miss Connecticut Competition
The Convent of the Sacred Heart student has won a beauty and talent contest that is a prelude to the Miss America competition.

Convent of the Sacred Heart senior Pippa Leigh of Greenwich is a skater, singer and scholar. Now she also has the title as the first-ever Miss Hockanum Valley, which qualifies her to compete in the Miss Connecticut pageant in June.
The state pageant is preliminary round to Miss America competition. This is the Greenwich teen’s first title.
Pippa, who is an elite figure skater, performed “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from the Broadway musical Funny Girl for the talent portion of the competition that was held Saturday.

The 17-year-old trains early in the morning on the ice rink before school. She will Connecticut in the State Games of America to be held in Lincoln, NE in July. She also is preparing for a concert to be held at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in early June.
And with that busy schedule, academics are foremost for Pippa who will graduate in June with nine Advanced Placement classes to her credit. The College Board has named her an AP Scholar. At Sacred Heart, she has competed in Congressional debate as a member of the speech and debate team.

Pippa said she feels honored to be representing Hockanum Valley as the first winner of this newly-created title. Although the Hockanum River is two hours north of Greenwich, she said she hopes to make a difference in both Hockanum Valley, as well as in her hometown of Greenwich for the Miss America Organization. Her platform reaches out to young girls in Harlem, where she works with the nonprofit group Figure Skating in Harlem. She volunteers each week as an assistant skating coach, and also she works with the girls to encourage their educational advancement.
