GREENWICH, CT — Janet Stone McGuigan announced this week her candidacy for state senator in the 36th District, which covers all of Greenwich, and portions of Stamford and New Canaan.
According to a news release provided by her campaign, Stone McGuigan recently stepped down after serving two terms on the Greenwich Board of Selectmen.
Currently, she has returned to the RTM and, at the request of First Selectman Fred Camillo, will continue to serve as co-chair of the Sustainability Committee, according to the release.

Additionally, Stone McGuigan is a voting member of the Julian Curtiss School Building Committee and serves as a board member or advisor for Barbara's House, Friends of the Wallace Senior Center, River House, Greenwich Green and Clean, Friends of Binney Park and the Greenwich Point Conservancy, according to the release.
When Stone McGuigan stepped down as selectman in November, Camillo issued a surprise proclamation declaring Nov. 25, 2025, as Janet Stone McGuigan Day in honor of her service to Greenwich, according to the release.

Since moving to her husband's hometown of Greenwich in 2006, Stone McGuigan has engaged in volunteer work, ultimately serving leadership positions with the Greenwich League of Women Voters, the Junior League and the Greenwich PTA Council, according to the release.
Stone McGuigan also previously worked as a policy analyst and a mediator for federal regulatory negotiations, according to the release.
She has degrees in civil engineering and economics from Cornell University and a master's degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, according to the release.
"Our district deserves strong, thoughtful representation in Hartford," Stone McGuigan said in a news release, "someone who will fight for our democratic principles while also tackling the issues families face every day: affordability, housing, health care, education, and the rising cost of energy."
A breakdown of where Stone McGuigan stands on various issues can be viewed on her campaign website.
"I'm running for State Senate because I want to support the community that has given so much to my family," Stone McGuigan said. "I'm proud of my record of getting things done, respectfully and collegially. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves, work to bring resources back to our district and make sure Hartford spends our tax dollars wisely. During my time serving on the Greenwich Board of Selectmen, I attended countless public meetings and worked across government to deliver results—including helping secure a $500,000 federal grant to dredge Greenwich Harbor."
Stone McGuigan describes herself in the release as a moderate who has won broad support across party lines.
"The people of [Connecticut] want and deserve a government that works," Stone McGuigan said. "A government that works for them, their children and their grandchildren. In the statehouse I will work diligently with all stakeholders and put partisan politics aside. That is what I do best."
The 36th State Senate District will be vacated since state Sen. Ryan Fazio, also a Republican, is challenging Gov. Ned Lamont in the gubernatorial race.
The election is slated for Nov. 3.
