Gun Found In Stolen Car, Suspects Fled On Foot In Stamford: Greenwich PD

GREENWICH, CT — Police said they recovered a gun from a stolen car in Stamford following a pursuit in the early morning hours of Nov. 18. Three suspects were able to get away on foot.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, Greenwich police officers noticed a car that was reported stolen from Stamford traveling in Greenwich near the town border, police said. The officers tried to stop the car but the car fled into Stamford; the Greenwich 911 dispatch center alerted the Stamford Police Department to the car's last known location, police noted.

Officers followed the car from a distance and saw it hit a curb which caused a flat tire at the intersection of Stillwater Avenue and West Avenue near Stamford Hospital, police said, noting that three suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Stamford police conducted "an extensive search" in the area but the suspects were not found, police said.

Greenwich police officers arrived at the scene and found a Glock pistol with an extended capacity magazine on the pavement near the car, police said.

"This incident emphasizes the ongoing need to combat vehicle theft in our community. We must remain vigilant; keep keys and fobs out of vehicles , lock vehicle doors," Greenwich police said on Facebook. "We need to work together to ensure the safety and security of our communities."
