Handgun Stolen During Greenwich Car Burglary

Three thefts from parked cars were reported over the weekend.

Greenwich detectives are investigating the weekend theft of a handgun from a car parked on the Mill Street bridge in Byram.

A Stamford man left his firearm inside his car parked on the Mill Street bridge on the Greenwich-Port Chester borer about 10 p.m. July 9 and walked to a bar in Port Chester, according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. When the man returned to his car, he discovered the Glock .45-caliber handgun and an iPhone were missing from the vehicle’s glovebox.

Gray said the man, who legally owned the gun, initially reported the theft to Port Chester Police who determined the vehicle actually was parked in Greenwich. The theft was reported to Greenwich Police about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The initial police report did not indicate how entry was made to the car or whether the gun was loaded, Gray said.

In another theft, a laptop computer and its carry bag were reported stolen from a car that was parked and left unlocked on Valley Drive on Sunday.
