Severe Thunderstorms Expected Today, Sunday: CT Weather
Severe weather is possible both today and on Sunday in Connecticut. Here are the latest details on timing and what to expect.
CONNECTICUT — A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for the chance of severe thunderstorms both today and on Sunday for all of Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and Sunday afternoon too.
It doesn't appear to be a complete washout for either day but the weather conditions are expected to change rapidly, so if you're out and about you'll want to be prepared for quick-changing weather conditions.
The largest concerns from these potential storms is heavy rain, strong wind gusts and possible hail, according to the National Weather Service.

Southern CT's Forecast
For Southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service says the storms should arrive between 3 and 6 p.m. for inland areas of Southern Connecticut and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the immediate coast.

"There is a risk for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms to move through the region this afternoon into early this evening with a cold frontal passage. The primary threat will be strong to damaging wind gusts. The thunderstorms may also produce frequent lightning and large hail," the NWS says for Southern CT.
Additionally, there is a chance for an "isolated strong to severe thunderstorm is possible Sunday afternoon with a cold frontal passage. The main threats will be strong wind gusts and small hail."
Northern CT's Forecast:
The NWS says, "Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into early this evening. The main threats will be locally strong to damaging winds and large hail. The greatest risk is expected to be near and south of the Massachusetts Turnpike, but there is the potential across the entire region. Heavy rainfall may produce localized street and poor drainage flooding. Expect the showers and thunderstorms to push into northern Massachusetts between noon and 2 PM, then shifting steadily southeast, exiting off the south coast around 8 PM."
Additionally, on Sunday the NWS says, "Scattered strong thunderstorms, some of which may be severe, are possible from mid to late Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon. Hail will be the primary concern with strong to locally damaging wind gusts a secondary concern."
