Interim Headmaster Named At Greenwich High School
Richard Piotrzkowski replaces Dr. Christopher S. Winters, who is leaving to join Greenwich Country Day School.

GREENWICH, CT — Richard (Rick) Piotrzkowski, a member of the Greenwich High School family since 1984, has been named the school's Interim Headmaster, effective August 20, announced Greenwich Public Schools Interim Superintendent Ralph Mayo Friday.
Piotrzkowski replaces Dr. Christopher S. Winters, who is leaving the school to become Head of the new Upper School at Greenwich Country Day School.
Since 2004, Piotrzkowski has served as Assistant Headmaster of GHS, and before that he was science program administrator and a chemistry teacher. In his current role, he will oversee the daily operations of the 2,700-student school, including scheduling, budgeting, the assessment system, implementation of the Digital Learning Environment, the UCONN Early College Experience program, and the student data and communication management systems.

Added Mayo, "Rick Piotrzkowski is an outstanding educator and leader. I have worked closely with him over the last thirty-four years in his roles as science teacher, Program Administrator and Assistant Headmaster at GHS. He is the perfect candidate for Interim Headmaster as he knows and fully understands the climate, culture and operations of the high school. He has also been intimately involved in the development of the high school's strategic plan, ensuring the school will continue moving forward to make learning personal for our students. He has the respect of and cares deeply for the staff, students and families at GHS. I am confident he will work extremely hard to ensure that the high school continues to have exemplary outcomes in academics, the arts and on the athletic fields."

The search for a new Headmaster/Headmistress for Greenwich High School is underway and will include the development of a leadership profile, widespread recruitment efforts and a comprehensive interview and screening process. It is expected that the new Headmaster/Headmistress will be appointed for the 2019-2020 school year.
Bio Brief: Richard Piotrzkowski
An educator for thirty-eight years, with twenty years of leadership experience, Mr. Piotrzkowski began his career as a science and math teacher with the Greentown Indiana Public Schools in 1980. Four years later, he moved to Connecticut and began working for the Greenwich Public Schools at Greenwich High School as a chemistry teacher. Mr. Piotrzkowski served as the program leader for the science program at GHS for five years (1999-2004), before taking on the role of assistant headmaster in 2004. In this position, he is responsible for oversight of the daily operations of the school, including the master schedule, budgeting, and the data management, student information, communication, digital learning and assessment systems.
He has been an integral member of the District’s Digital Learning Environment (DLE) Steering Committee and the Greenwich District Data Team (GDDT). He received the New England Chemical Society’s 1998 Connecticut Teacher of the Year Award and a 1989 Greenwich Distinguished Teachers Award.
Mr. Piotrzkowski received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN in 1980; a Master of Science degree in Education from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN in 1990; and a Masters of Administration from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT in 2000.
