John McNamee, 76; Was the Co-Owner of The Greenwich Drug Store

Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov. 7 with the funeral Mass scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8.

John Michael McNamee passed away following a brief illness on All Saints Day, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014. He was 76.

Jack was born in Greenwich on Sept. 30, 1938 to Sarah and John McNamee and was raised in town along with his eight siblings.

He excelled in school and received a full scholarship to Iona Prep. He earned an Accounting Degree from Providence College and was a member of the United State Army Reserve.
After graduation and establishing his own family in Cos Cob, Jack accepted a business manager position at The Greenwich Drug Store. He enjoyed telling people that he was a soda jerk at the pharmacy’s fountain while in high school and worked his way to co-owner of the town landmark.

When the store closed in 1986, he expanded his accounting practice. Jack was active in numerous local organizations and committees, including the Greenwich Catholic School system’s Home School Association (serving terms as President and Treasurer), the GPD Emerald Society, the Knights of Columbus, the Greenwich RTM, and several town parishes. He loved family and treated all as such, offering guidance, humor and support.

Jack is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children Kathleen McNamee, Sharon (Kent) Fawcett, Margaret (Tony) Verrico and John M. (Tanya) McNamee Jr.; step-children Eric Blake, Meredith Blake and Michael (Masha) Blake; his siblings, Nancy O’Leary, Catherine Zupkus, Mary McNamee, Connie (Polly) McNamee. Many grandchildren, a great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews, also survive.

He will be greatly missed by all who had the great fortune to have known him.

Calling hours are scheduled 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Karen, 118 Titicus Rd., North Salem, NY 10560 in memory of Jack’s grandson, Ian Verrico.
