Officers made multiple attempts to contact the suspect, later identified as Pelaez, who was eventually located at the rear of the home and taken into custody without incident, police said.
"Pelaez made several self-incriminating statements on scene including 'I chased [victim] with the knife,' and, 'I tried to hit [victim] with the knife,'" police said.
A large kitchen knife was recovered from the scene, police noted.
Pelaez was held on a $250,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 12.
Police praised several officers involved in the call who "safely de-escalated" the situation.
