GREENWICH, CT — A 35-year-old man accused of stealing mail and cashing two checks in his name was arrested on a warrant in Greenwich last week, according to police.

Daniel Flores, of the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with sixth-degree larceny, a misdemeanor, and criminal attempt at third-degree burglary and second-degree identity theft, both felonies, his arrest report states.

On Aug. 10, Greenwich police officers noticed "a known male" in the vicinity of Mason Street and East Putnam Avenue who had an active arrest warrant from the Greenwich Police Department, police said. The man was later positively identified as Flores, and he was arrested.

Police said the warrant stems from an incident that occurred on June 6 in which Flores was seen on a surveillance camera stealing two pieces of mail from an outgoing mailbox at an apartment complex in Byram.

The location of the incident is listed on Flores's arrest report as West Ritch Avenue.

Flores took possession of two personal checks and cashed them in his own name, police said.

Additionally, police said Flores was seen on video surveillance trying to gain entry to several vehicles in the parking lot outside the apartment complex.

Flores was unable to post a $50,000 bond; he's scheduled to appear in Stanford Superior Court on Aug. 25.
