Man Charged In Home Burglary: Greenwich Police

Police used drones and a K9 unit to track suspects wanted in connection with a burglary, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department has announced the arrest of a 33-year-old man in connection with a home burglary that occurred over the weekend.

Jonathan Rojas-Urriola was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and sixth-degree larceny, police said

On Feb. 28 at approximately 8 p.m., multiple police units were called to the central part of town on a report of two people who were seen on surveillance video inside an unoccupied residence, according to police.

The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival, the GPD noted. The Stamford Police Department deployed a drone unit and the GPD K9 unit responded to help in the search.

"Officers tracked the suspects on foot through the neighborhood which led officers to a second unoccupied residence, where fresh damage was observed to a second-story window," police said. "The second residence was located less than half a mile from the original burglary. The homeowners confirmed that no one was authorized to be inside the residence at that time."

Officers made entry to the home and conducted a "systematic search," police said. One suspect, later identified as Rojas-Urriola, was found hiding in a stairwell that led to a small crawlspace, according to police.

Rojas-Urriola was held on a $200,000 bond, which he was unable to post. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court.

The arrest came after two homes were reported to be burglarized on Feb. 26 in the Glenville section of town. It's unclear if the incidents are related.

Police issued several safety tips to residents:

  • Ensure all doors and windows are locked, including second-story windows
  • Activate alarm systems whenever leaving your residence or turning in for the evening
  • Regularly test and maintain surveillance cameras to ensure they are functioning properly
  • Keep exterior areas well-lit, especially entry points and driveways

"Community awareness and vigilance remain key components in preventing property crimes," police said.

An investigation remains ongoing, police said, and no further information will be released at this time.
