Man Found With Over 80 Counterfeit Debit Cards: Greenwich Police

Police said they noticed "suspicious activity" at a local bank. A 33-year-old man was arrested.

GREENWICH, CT — A 33-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 13 after police said he used multiple counterfeit debit cards to try and withdraw money at ATMs.

Igor Stoica, of the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with criminal attempt at third-degree larceny; fraudulent use of an automated teller; having more than $500 on a revoked payment card; receipt from the illegal use of a credit card; third-degree identity theft; and third-degree forgery, according to his arrest report.

Police said on Oct. 13 at 12:40 p.m., patrol and plainclothes officers working in the downtown Greenwich area noticed "suspicious activity" at a local bank. The area of the incident is listed on Stoica's arrest report as Mason Street.

Officers detained a man later identified as Stoica, police said.

An investigation found that Stoica used counterfeit debit cards with personal identifying information of different victims on them to try and withdraw money at local ATMs, police said.

A search of Stoica found 84 counterfeit debit cards and $2,810, according to police.

Stoica was unable to post a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 27.
