Man Pleads Guilty to Valentine's Day Slashing of Cabbie in Greenwich

The suspect was driven from Port Chester to Greenwich where the cabbie's throat was slashed.

The man accused of hiring a taxi to bring him from Port Chester to Greenwich on Valentine’s Day has pleaded guilty to slashing the throat of the cabbie.

Miguel A. Reyes-Pantoja, 26, who gave an address of 23 Poningo St. in Port Chester, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault on Friday, according to Greenwich Time.

Reyes-Pantoja was caught moments after the incident on South Water Street in the Byram neighborhood of Greenwich at 3:15 a.m. Feb. 14. The victim, whose face and throat were slashed with a box-cutter, called his dispatcher at RC Taxi and colleagues raced to the scene while calling Greenwich Police.

The victim was rushed to Stamford Hospital where he underwent emergency, life-saving surgery, police said at the time.

Reyes-Pantoja originally was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and breach of peace and pleaded guilty to the assault charge in exchange for a jail sentence of 5 to 10 years.

He remains in custody unable to post $500,000 bond pending sentencing on Nov. 20, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.
