Man Rescued From Icy Waters In Greenwich: Police

Greenwich police officers were assisted by yacht club staff members in the rescue of a man from frigid waters on Feb. 22, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — A man was rescued from the frigid waters in Cos Cob Harbor on Feb. 22, according to an announcement from the Greenwich Police Department.

The rescue occurred at approximately 2:31 p.m. last Saturday when GPD patrol units received an "urgent dispatch" to the 100 block of Club Road.

"An elderly man was observed in the frigid waters of Cos Cob Harbor near the navigation channel. The quick arrival of GPD officers found the man struggling to stay afloat, aided by the heroic efforts of Riverside Yacht Club staff members," police said.

Despite 35-degree waters, officers and yacht club staff members were able to pull the man ashore where he received "critical medical assistance."

"We commend Patrol Officers M. Swift, Caldwell, and Pascale for their exceptional performance," police said. "Their unwavering to service and teamwork epitomize the core values of our department: confronting difficult situations with confidence, determination, and bravery. Their actions reflect our unyielding commitment to doing what is right, no matter the physical or mental challenges. Great teamwork by all those involved."
