GREENWICH, CT — A 67-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint and injured while using an ATM in central Greenwich on Sunday night, and police are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect.

On March 19 at 9:34 p.m., the man was using the ATM located at the Wells Fargo Bank on West Putnam Avenue.

Upon completing a transaction and attempting to leave the bank's front doors, the man was pushed back into the lobby area "by a knife-wielding suspect who demanded the victim to withdraw more funds," Capt. Mark Zuccerella of the GPD said.

The man was unable to complete any further transactions, and was robbed of the money he had just withdrawn, Zuccerella said, noting that during the course of the robbery, the man's hand was cut by the suspect's knife. The man was later treated at the scene.

A bystander witnessed the robbery and called 911. They had noticed the suspect pacing for several minutes outside the bank prior to the robbery, police said.

The suspect fled the area on foot on West Putnam Avenue towards Greenwich Avenue, said police, who didn't have information on if a vehicle was involved.

Police described the suspect as a Black man, 6 feet tall, thin and in his late teens to early 20s. He was wearing a long black-hooded jacket with the hood up, a black face covering, black skinny jeans and bright white sneakers, police said.
