Greenwich Man Stole Copper Piping From Vacant House: Police

Police were called to a Greenwich home on the afternoon of April 1 on a report of a burglary.

GREENWICH, CT — A Greenwich man was arrested last week after police say he stole copper piping from a vacant house and caused "significant damage."

Jeffrey Caviola, 42, was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, and first-degree criminal mischief.

Greenwich police officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Riversville Road on a report of a burglary around 12:45 p.m. on April 1, according to Caviola's arrest report.

A realtor was conducting a routine visit to the property and found signs of theft, including missing copper pipes from various locations in the house, police said in an announcement.

As Caviola left the house, he was met by the realtor, who took a photo of Caviola's vehicle and provided a description to police, the arrest report noted.

Officers found a Sawzall tool, a grinder, cutters, snips and a bag containing a drill in Caviola's vehicle, police said.

Caviola was released on a $10,000 bond. He's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on April 21.
