Maureen Hyland, 82; Greenwich Resident Who Enjoyed Knitting, Sewing


Maureen Ann Hyland, of Greenwich, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013. She was 82.

She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, born on March 6, 1931, she was a daughter of Ann and George Thompson.

She graduated from Fontbonne Hall. Mrs. Hyland was known for her incredible sense of humor, keen wit and beautiful soprano voice. No one could "knit and Sew" like her — literally hundreds of her works of art adorn her home, and the homes of her sons and daughters.

Mrs. Hyland was the wife of John Hyland; mother of Annmary, Michael, Patrice, John, Maura and Peter, and grandmother to Bobby, Mikey, Matthew, Johnny, Emma, Anne, Bissy, Jennifer, Daniel, Geoffrey, Helen, Thompson and Brownwyn. She is also survived by her two sisters Ursula and Geri. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish 469 North St., Greenwich.
