Helynn A. Kapp, 94, of Greenwich, and New Suffolk, NY, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully at her home in Greenwich, Wednesday, March 2, 2016.
Helynn was born on June, 26, 1921 to William and Nora Ellen McMahon (Swift) of White Plains, NY.
Helynn was raised in White Plains, N.Y. and graduated from White Plains High School. Upon graduation she worked as an operator for New York Telephone Company. She worked her way up to a representative, instructor and then management. She served New York Telephone Company for over 30 years before a well-deserved retirement.
During retirement she traveled to England, Ireland, Spain, Greece and other various destinations around the United States. She flew aboard the Concorde to France and decided at the age of 64 she would parasail in Acapulco, Mexico. She became sort of a dare-devil the older she got. She also took a helicopter to the top of an Iceberg in Alaska. Helynn loved baking, making preserves, doing New York Times crossword puzzles, knitting and gardening at her home in Long Island.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years Donald Kapp of Greenwich. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Anne, Mary, Patricia, Margaret (Peggy), Thomas and John.
She is survived by her loving children Kathy Hirsch and her husband Jim of Greenwich, her son Kevin Kapp and his wife Linda of Flagler Beach, FL, and her son Donald Kapp and his wife Gail of Punta Gorda, FL; her grandchildren Brian Hirsch and his wife Shayna, Keith Hirsch and his wife Amy, of Greenwich, and Christopher Kapp and his wife Kathy of Oxford; her great-grandchildren whom she took great pleasure in, Dakota Hirsch, Dalton Hirsch, Olivia Hirsch and Mikaya Hirsch; her sister Bonnie Sommerhoff and her husband Roy of Tamarack, FL and her brother William McMahon of White Plains, NY, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Helynn's life will be held at the Sacred Heart Church in Byram on Wednesday, March 9, at 9:30 AM. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday afternoon March 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. Interment will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery on North Street, Greenwich.
