Meteorologist Gil Simmons Sets His Return Date To WTNH-TV: VIDEO
During a Facebook Live chat Thursday, the popular Ch. 8 weather forecaster discussed Hurricane Irma and when he plans to return to the air.
Channel 8 meteorologist Gil Simmons said Thursday that he is planning to return to television on Monday, Sept. 18, following his health-related extended leave from the station.
Simmons, who has been away for more than two months, made the announcement during a Facebook Live broadcast, where he also gave an update on Hurricane Irma. See the video at the bottom of this story.
He has been posting weather updates on his Facebook page, and hosting a few Facebook Live chats, over the past several weeks while he recovers from what he called a couple of "kinked arteries" in his neck, which he suffered in early July.

During his time away, he has grown a beard and joked that he hasn't decided whether he'll keep it when he returns to television.
As for Hurricane Irma, while Connecticut will likely be spared of the harshest effects from the storm, Florida will get hit hard, and Simmons urges residents in the state to heed the warnings.

"If you know anyone on the east or south central coast of Florida, they need to take this extremely, extremely seriously," he said.
And while southern Florida looks to be the main target of the storm, residents of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina should also take it seriously because those states could also receive a pounding.
