New Details Released in Serious Pedestrian Accident in Greenwich: UPDATE

Police say the pedestrian ended up on the hood of the vehicle, she hit her head and ended up on the ground. Her condition has been updated.

GREENWICH, CT — A pedestrian was struck by a car Tuesday morning, and the impact from the accident sent the woman flying over the hood of the car striking her head, and then she hit the ground, police said.

The woman was knocked unconscious, but her "prognosis remains positive," Greenwich police said in a news release Wednesday morning.

Lt. Kraig Gray in a news release wrote that before 9 a.m. Tuesday a pedestrian was crossing Mill Street at the intersection of Mead Avenue from the south side to the north side of the road within the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was struck by a small passenger vehicle which was traveling eastbound on Mill Street, police said. The pedestrian rolled over the hood of the car, striking her head against the windshield, and was thrown to the ground a short distance from the initial impact, Gray said.

The operator of the vehicle immediately stopped, remained at the scene, and attempted to attend to the pedestrian, police said. The pedestrian had suffered a head injury and was unconsciousness, police said. The pedestrian was transported to the Stamford Emergency Hospital.

As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday the pedestrian remains in ICU for observation, but her prognosis remains positive, police said.

The Greenwich Police Department Traffic Section investigated the incident, and at the time of the collision, the operator of the motor vehicle had a steady green light and was operating the vehicle at a safe speed, police said.

The pedestrian was cited for failing to heed the special pedestrian-control signal located at the intersection, police said.
