GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones on Friday announced the appointment of Jason Martín as principal of Riverside School, effective July 1. Martín will replace Christopher Weiss, who announced his departure from GPS in January.

Since 2021, Martín has been the principal of West Gate K-8 School in Port Saint Lucie, Fla., one of the district’s largest elementary schools consisting of grades preK-8 with more than 1,600 students and 170 staff members.

"Mr. Jason Martín is a deeply passionate school administrator with more than two decades of experience at the preschool through high school levels," Jones said in the announcement. "He impressed Riverside School’s interview committee, consisting of GPS senior administrators, teachers, and parents, with his ability to lead, meet and exceed short and long-term academic goals, and align with district priorities. Parents and staff can expect Mr. Martín to be highly visible every morning and afternoon as he welcomes students to the most amazing learning environment called Riverside. Greenwich Public Schools continue to attract top leadership and teaching candidates from across the country."

"In his current role as a PreK through eighth grade administrator, his building has seen outstanding academic growth and developed a strong culture and climate," the school district added. "He has also been instrumental in helping students grow who have unique learning needs and are English language learners. Most importantly, Mr. Martín believes that a joyful learning environment must be coupled with outstanding teaching and high levels of learning growth."

The school district went on to say that Martín’s references from Connecticut, New York, and Florida describe him as "an individual who is highly respected and adored by staff, students, and families for the way that he listens intently, seeks input, and sets a positive pathway for all students to achieve individual excellence."

He is known to be visiting classrooms daily, and leading professional development for staff so that teaching and learning is at the highest level, the district said.

"It is an honor to have been chosen by Dr. Jones and the hiring committee to lead such an outstanding school community," Martín said. "For the next few months, I look forward to immersing myself in all things Greenwich and discovering Riverside School's superpowers to build strong, lasting relationships by engaging extensively with our school community."=

Martín earned a bachelor's degree in physics and a master's in teaching from Towson University; and a master's in building leadership from Mercy College.

He also holds a certificate in Administration and Supervision in the state of Connecticut.
