Obituary: Brian J. Salerno, 78; Retired Financial Executive

The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, July 25.


Brian J. Salerno,78, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 15, 2013 surrounded by his family.

He was born on Jan. 20,1935 in New York, to Anthony and Katherine Ryan Salerno.

Raised in New Rochelle, NY, he was a 1953 graduate of New Rochelle High School. He graduated from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia where he was president of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He also served in The US Navy Reserves.

He married the late Nanci Mungan on Feb. 3, 1960 in New Rochelle. They settled in Westchester County and Brian embarked on a very long successful career on Wall Street before settling in Greenwich in 1972. He started at the firm Hayden Stone and moved to E.F. Hutton where he became Senior Vice President of Block Trading throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Following his departure he worked for UBS until his retirement in the mid-1990s. An avid reader, he loved a good book at the beach or by the pool. He loved old western movies, country music and was a collector of southwestern art.

Mr. Salerno is survived by his three sons, Brian J Salerno Jr., Jon T. Salerno and Gregory A Salerno, all of Greenwich. He is also survived by his loyal and loving 15 year old yellow lab, Dillon, who was regarded as his "4th and favorite" son because he never talked back or asked to borrow money and undoubtedly the apple of his eye! He also leaves behind his sister Katherine C Schedlbauer of Springfield, MO and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife Nanci and his brother, Robert M. Salerno.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at St.Michael the Archangel Parish, 469 North St., Greenwich. Burial will be private.
