The following obituary of Greenwich resident and former Police Officer John Styles, 89, is from Castiglione Funeral Home, with additional information from the Greenwich Police Department:
John "Deacon" Styles passed away at Greenwich Hospital on July 30 at the age of 89. He was a resident of Greenwich, Connecticut. He was born on November 7, 1928 in New Rochelle, New York to Anita Kennedy and John P. Styles.
He attended Albert Leonard high school and played basketball for the New Rochelle Rockets. John was predeceased by the love of his life, Frances Anita Fox, they were married for 35 years.

He is survived by four children, John Jr., Meg, Patricia (Reilly), and Kathleen. He was Mee paw to his four grandchildren: Annie Styles, James Styles, Courtney Reilly, and Colleen Reilly. He is also survived by his sister Anita Styles Hornibrook.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After that he joined the Greenwich Police department and served 26 years before retiring. He received various awards including the police combat cross for valor. He was a past president of the Silver Shield Association, and a loyal member of the Sacred Heart Church community.

According to Greenwich police, Styles' personnel file "contains numerous letters from citizens commending him on his outstanding performance and service to the community."
"He played a significant role in the pursuit and apprehension of a man responsible for burglary of a liquor store as well as multiple suspects wanted for several house burglaries," wrote the department in a statement. "He was awarded the Police Combat Cross, a Commendation Ribbon and multiple Excellent Police Duty Medals."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 3, 2018 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St. Greenwich, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St Mary Cemetery, Greenwich. Friends and family may visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd #3 Greenwich CT Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4-8 PM.
