Obituary: Nancy Pecora, 74; St. Roch's Church Volunteer


Nancy V. Pecora, passed away on July 24, 2013 due to complications after a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was 74.

Nancy was born in Greenwich, to Horace and Filomena (Fanny) LoParco.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sylvester J. Pecora Sr.; her daughters, Elizabeth A. Varney (Jim) and Mary Jo Pecora-Runkle (Scott); her sons, Joseph A. Pecora (Melinda) and Sylvester J. Pecora Jr. (Alissa); and 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Mauro LoParco (Blanche) and her sister, Fedelia Brunetti (Jim).

She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Marie Suster.

Nancy graduated from Greenwich High School in 1957. She worked for a short time at American Cyanamid and Barnes Engineering. Nancy married her best friend Sylvester in 1960 and had four children during their 53-year marriage. Nancy devoted her time, love and energy into raising her family. She was a regular volunteer at Hamilton Avenue School while her children attended. She could also be seen volunteering at St. Roch's Church Summer Feast making pizza fritta.

Nancy was all about her family. Nancy's devotion to her husband and children was evident to all who knew her. Her greatest joy in life was cherishing each of her 11 grandchildren. Nancy never missed a chance to celebrate those special moments in their lives. She would be seen cheering each grandchild at their concerts, plays, sporting events and recitals. She instilled into her children and grandchildren a strong sense of family love that will last forever, often saying "Your best friends are your family".

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at St. Roch's Catholic Church, 10 St. Roch's Ave., Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Roch's Church or a charity of your choice.
