Officer Injured, Police Car Struck By Fleeing Vehicle In Greenwich: PD

Police said the incident resulted in "a significant police presence" in the Byram area of town.

GREENWICH, CT — An officer was injured when a police car was struck by a fleeing vehicle Wednesday afternoon in the Byram area of town, according to the Greenwich Police Department.

In a Facebook post, police said the department became aware of a possible car carrier scam around 1:30 p.m.

In an attempt to intercept the suspected larceny from occurring, officers were called to the Byram area of town for surveillance, according to police.

According to police, when a suspect arrived in the area around 3 p.m., undercover officers identified themselves in order to make an arrest and tried to stop the suspect's vehicle.

The vehicle then fled the scene after trying to strike one of the officers, according to police.

The vehicle then struck a marked patrol vehicle a short time later while trying to further evade officers, police said.

The officer in the vehicle was injured in the collision and is being evaluated, according to police.

Multiple officers then responded to the area, resulting in a significant police presence, police said.

According to police, two people connected with the incident have been arrested, however the incident remains under active investigation.

Police said there is no known threat to the community at this time.
