Outdoor Burn Ban In Effect In Greenwich
The town is urging residents to exercise "extreme caution."

GREENWICH, CT — Due to the continued "extreme" fire danger around Connecticut, the Greenwich Fire Department has issued a ban on all outdoor burning within the Town of Greenwich.
This includes, but is not limited to, the use of fire pits, outdoor grilling (either with charcoal or with embers) or any open flame.

Residents should exercise extreme caution, especially when disposing of smoking materials outdoors, disposing of fire place ashes and the use of powered motor equipment when clearing leaves. The town is also reminding residents to use caution when parking their vehicles on or near any leaf piles.
The outdoor burn ban comes two days after a Greenwich police cruiser was destroyed after a sudden brush fire caused it to burst into flames.

An emergency burn ban remains in effect for all Connecticut State parks, forests and wildlife management areas. This prohibits the use of all outdoor grills, fire pits and campfires, kindling and the use of flame outdoors.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, along with local agencies, is still monitoring several areas across the state.
Since Oct. 21, a total of 144 brush fires have been reported in the State of Connecticut, the Town of Greenwich noted.
