Portion Of Western Middle School Field In Greenwich Expected To Reopen
Testing is ongoing for contaminants.

GREENWICH, CT — Soil tests at Western Middle School in Greenwich remain ongoing, as the town continues its investigation into contaminants found in parts of the sports fields.
"Although current summer sampling, testing and analysis are not complete, preliminary results from the most recent rounds of testing initiated in June have been shared," wrote school district officials in a statement. "The initial findings indicate the need for additional sampling and analysis in at least two grid areas of the field."
The school system is working with the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the state Department of Public Health and the state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection on the situation, and "the District anticipates re-opening a portion of the WMS fields pending submission to and review of site safety and control measures by the regulatory agencies."
