Connecticut Weather: Nor'easter Track, Impacts Still a Mystery

One thing is certain and that is Wednesday will be beautiful with temps in the mid 50s and sunny skies. After that, who knows.

As you've heard for days, a nor'easter is expected to impact our weather on Thursday night and Friday. But if you were hoping for clarity Tuesday night on what to expect, well, I'm sorry. No one has any firm idea where this powerful storm will exactly track, and that is the key to if Connecticut will receive some rain and wind, or heavy rain, strong gusty winds and flooding concerns, or even heavy snow.

According to the National Weather Service and NBC Connecticut Meteorologist and Fox 61 Meteorologist Rachel Frank all options are presently on the table.

Snow, rain, coastal flooding, heavy winds? Who knows right now. On his Twitter account, Hanrahan summed up why it's hard to predict what the storm may bring to Connecticut. He said computer models are showing differing outcomes.

"This is crazy. A remarkable difference between the GFS and Euro ensembles. Bottom line is we still don't know what this Friday storm is going to do," Hanrahran said on social media.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of Connecticut in anticipation of the nor'easter.

For the immediate Connecticut coast, "Several tidal cycles of minor to locally moderate coastal flooding and areas of dune erosion are likely from late Thursday into Saturday. There is a low probability of widespread moderate coastal flooding. There is also a low chance for strong to damaging winds during the Thursday night into Friday Night time period, particularly for Long Island and Southeastern Connecticut."

For inland areas of New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties, "There is a low chance for strong to damaging winds during the Thursday night into Friday Night time period."

For inland areas of Fairfield County: "There is the potential for rain to changeover to an accumulating wet snow late Thursday night into Friday as a storm system deepens just east of the area. There is still much uncertainty at this time and the chance for 6 or more inches of snowfall is low."

In Hartford and Tolland counties, rain is expected Thursday night and there is a chance it could mix or change to snow Friday night.

In Litchfield County: "A moderate to heavy precipitation event is possible Friday as a storm system impacts the region. There is still much uncertainty as to precipitation amounts and types, but the highest probability for significant precipitation is over areas south of Interstate 90. At this time, it appears that higher elevations across southern areas, including the southeast Catskills, southern Taconics, and Litchfield Hills may have the greatest chances of significant snow. In addition, strong winds could also occur.

"Possible impacts could be scattered power outages from a combination of wind and snow, and/or urban and small stream flooding from runoff from heavy rain," the National Weather Service says of Litchfield County.

Enjoy Wednesday's weather, sunny skies and temps in the mid 50s. The calm before the storm? Maybe. We just don't know.
