Proposed Hike In Schools' Floor Area Ratio Debated In Greenwich
Battle lines appear to be drawn between residents and P&Z officials over the proposal, which some residents believe could be ripe for abuse.

GREENWICH, CT — A Planning and Zoning proposal to allow public and private schools in Greenwich to increase the size of their floor area ratio by 30 percent has angered some residents, who told the commission this week that the new amendment could be abused, reports Greenwich Free Press.
Residents, some of whom complained that the commission didn't adequately notify people about such an important proposal, say that some dubious educational institutions could possibly spring up just to take advantage of the FAR increase. Some also warned that allowing schools to increase FAR could harm the neighborhood quality of many areas around town.
Some of Greenwich's private schools in recent years have acquired parcels near their campuses in order to expand their facilities.

The proposal does not call for automatic approvals for increases in FAR, and current setback and building height requirements would still apply.
Officials tabled the proposal for the time being to allow for further review and discussion.
