Retired Police Chief William Andersen Laid to Rest
Mourners pay respects to chief, former U.S. Marshal.
Mourners filled the sanctuary of St. Mary Church Wednesday to pay final respects to retired Greenwich Police Chief William Andersen.
Andersen, who retired in 1990 after a 20-year career with Greenwich that culminated with his appointment as chief in 1986, died May 21 at Yale New Haven Hospital from complications following heart surgery. He was 67.
Following the Mass of Christian Burial, his funeral procession made one final ride down Greenwich Avenue, to Bruce Place and the Greenwich Public Safety Complex where officers and civilian staff gave him their final salute.
