Road Improvement Project In Byram To Begin Sept. 21
The project will add new safety elements in the area of Frontage Road, Delavan Avenue and Ritch Avenue, according to Greenwich DPW.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Department of Public Works announced on Thursday that the Frontage Road, Delavan Avenue and Ritch Avenue improvement project will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
The project was developed by Greenwich DPW in order to make the area more pedestrian and bicyclist-friendly, and to add traffic calming measures.
"To improve pedestrian and cyclist safety, a multi-use trail that connects Frontage Road to Byram Park will be added. The current four-foot-wide sidewalks will be expanded to five feet," Greenwich DPW said in a news release. "In order to accommodate bicyclists, portions of the sidewalk along Frontage Road, Delavan Avenue, and Ritch Street will be widened to eight feet. Crosswalk improvements are included in this project."

With regards to traffic calming measures, the road medians will be widened to narrow the travel lanes, which reduced opportunities for speeding and aggressive driving, according to Greenwich DPW.
In July, residents in Byram went before the Board of Selectmen complaining about dangerous driving conditions in their neighborhood.

The project will also modify the traffic signal at the Delavan Avenue and Frontage Road intersection, and the Ritch Avenue and Byram Shore Road intersection to improve traffic conditions. A new mast arm and pedestrian signals will be installed, as well as a left turn signal on Delevan Avenue traveling northbound onto Frontage Road.
Other features of this project include installing new granite curbing, bituminous concrete sidewalk, and ADA compliant ramps, along with making modifications to storm drain pipes and catch basins.
According to Greenwich DPW, it's anticipated that one lane traffic will start around the third week of October during the median construction. Construction is projected to end January 2022 and will be completely finished by spring of 2022 after Frontage Road, Delavan Avenue, and Ritch Avenue are paved.
Project completion is dependent on weather and any unforeseen circumstances.
Motorists are being asked to give themselves extra time when traveling in the area in case there is a lane closure or extra traffic due to construction.
