Well that escalated quickly. On Sunday, snow accumulation estimates for a mid-week storm called for 1 to 2 inches of snow in western Connecticut and 2 to 4 inches for the rest of the state. A day later and snow accumulation estimates are jumping for Connecticut and it's very possible there could be a huge number of school cancelations and delays Wednesday morning.

The snow is expected to get going Tuesday night and end Wednesday morning. While it's not a long duration snowstorm, it's expected to produce a quick burst of accumulating snow.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said Monday that "The Tuesday PM/Wednesday AM storm is an odd one. At first glance it's very unimpressive. That said, a tongue of very moist low level air is going to race up the coast and get injected into an otherwise ugly looking system. This should result in a pretty impressive burst of snow locally. If everything goes right (or wrong) over 8" of snow is possible in a few towns. We'll see how this evolves through the day and update our forecast as necessary."

WFSB TV Meteorologist is predicting 5 to 10 inches of snow for most of Connecticut and a bit less in New London County.

"Winter storm clare will bring plowable snow to ct! starts late tuesday, peaks wednesday morning, ends that afternoon...," Dixon said on social media.

said it "Looks like a poorly-timed snowfall Wednesday morning. Starting late Tuesday night, ending mid-day Wedesday. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few 6+" amounts in Litchfield County. Rain/mix may limit totals in SE CT. We'll adjust the numbers in the next day or 2 w/ more data available."

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "A cold day with a few flurries today with highs only in the 20s. Wind chill in the teens!! Watching snow for later tomorrow & Wednesday. Could be impact to schools WED AM!!"

The National Weather Service is predicting 3 to 4 inches for the immediate Connecticut coast and 4 to 6 inches for inland and northern areas of Connecticut.
