Sophie Mucha, 82; Cos Cob Resident Who Enjoyed Tending to Her Flowering Plants and Large Backyard Vegetable Garden

Sophie Mucha, age 82, of Cos Cob, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Sophie was born in Jankowicze, Poland on December 5, 1932 to the late Joseph and Katherine Grygorcewicz.

As a teen, she emmigrated to America through Ellis Island and settled in Byram, where she met her husband John.

Sophie was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed tending to her flowering plants and large backyard vegetable garden. Thus she cooked many wonderful dinners for family gatherings and also shared the vegetables from that garden with friends and neighbors. She jarred her own, homemade pickles as well as horseradish and garlic concoctions, and her deviled eggs were a staple at every family celebration.

She enjoyed weekend ‘tag saling’ in search of hidden treasures and amassed a collection she was proud to display. Sophie was an avid coupon clipper and scoured numerous weekly flyers for the best deals on groceries. She was a fan of classic movies on TMC and newer ones on Hallmark Channel. She loved the backyard wildlife, especially feeding the neighborhood stray cats, birds and squirrels.

Sophie is survived by her sons Michael Mucha, Gerard (Patricia) Mucha, Paul (Courtney) Mucha and her daughter Diane. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Allison Habel, Stephen Mucha, Katie Mucha and Andrew Mucha, two sisters, Jean Kowalski and Paula Jablonski and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband John P. Mucha and a daughter Mary Ann Mucha.

Funeral services and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held later this spring to celebrate her life.
