GREENWICH, CT — A dislodged tire from a tractor trailer truck smashed into the rear of a Connecticut State Police Cruiser early Thursday on Interstate 95 northbound near Exit 5 in Greenwich, according to authorities.

No injuries were reported in the 2:45 a.m. crash, though a trooper, who was conducting a traffic stop, was inside the vehicle at the moment of impact.

"The Trooper was seated in his stationary cruiser with its overhead emergency lights activated when an unknown tractor trailer drove by the location of the traffic stop," state police officials wrote on Facebook (see below). "While the tractor trailer was driving by, a tire from its trailer became dislodged and struck the rear end of the cruiser."
