A Tesla sedan was clocked at a high rate of speed in a residential neighborhood in Greenwich on July 2, according to police.

GREENWICH, CT — A teenage driver was clocked at nearly 100 mph in a 30 mph zone in Greenwich last week, according to police, who are urging residents to travel at safe speeds.
The teen, a Greenwich resident who turns 20 later this month, was arrested and charged with reckless driving - operating over 85 mph. He was able to post bail and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 16, the CT Judicial Branch website notes.
On July 2 at approximately 4:45 pm., a Greenwich police officer was conducting stationary speed enforcement on Lake Avenue when a gray Tesla sedan was observed traveling northbound at 96 mph in a posted 30 mph zone, police said, adding the speed was detected using a radar unit while the officer was parked.

"The Greenwich Police Department reminds all motorists that speeding is not a minor traffic infraction when it endangers the public. In Connecticut, traveling more than 85 MPH constitutes Reckless Driving and is a criminal offense," police wrote on Facebook.
"Speed limits are enforced not only for the safety of the driver, but also for the protection of residents, pedestrians, and other motorists. Driving 96 MPH in a 30 MPH residential zone puts lives at serious risk. The Greenwich Police Department will continue proactive speed enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of our community."
