Town Man Faces DUI Charge After 'Aggressive Driving' Following Greenwich Town Party

Greenwich Police say the driver was intoxicated and wouldn't yield to pedestrians and vehicles as he drove his SUV in a parking lot.

A local man stands accused of “driving aggressively” and being “intoxicated” as he tried to leave the Greenwich Town Party that was held Saturday night at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said, “There was a large crowd of pedestrians and vehicles trying to leave the Island Beach parking lot at the end of the Greenwich Town Party. The driver was operating a large Mercedes Benz SUV and was driving aggressively in that crowd.”

According to Gray, said an officer stopped the driver, identified as George S. Bucknall, 58, of 390 Stanwich Rd., Greenwich, about 10:48 p.m. May 23. “Both he and his passenger (who wasn’t identified) were intoxicated,”Gray said.

Bucknall failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence and failure to grant right of way to pedestrians. He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear June 5 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
