Unlocked Vehicle Stolen In Greenwich: PD
Police said an unlocked vehicle in Greenwich was stolen and later recovered out of town.

GREENWICH, CT — An unlocked vehicle was stolen late last week in the Cos Cob area of town, according to police. Lt. Mark Zuccerella said an Audi parked on Lawrence Street was stolen on Friday, April 17.

"So far, we have located 22 out of the 26 stolen cars [in town] this year," Zuccerella said in an email.

Last weekend, an unlocked Audi was reported stolen from Buena Vista Drive, in the Glenville area of town, according to Zuccerella.

Additionally, police received three complaints of thefts from vehicles over the weekend, one of which was near where the Audi was stolen, Zuccerella said. Each vehicle was also unlocked, Zuccerella said.
"I cannot stress [enough]...that these cars are not stolen for profit," Zuccerella said in an earlier email. "They are stolen to commit crimes."

The lieutenant also noted the reported thefts from motor vehicles are likely the result of thieves looking for keys in unlocked cars.
"These crimes are 100 percent preventable," Zuccerella said.
