CT Weather: Flash Flood Watch Issued As Heavy Rain Pounds State
The National Weather Service says some areas of the state could receive up to five inches of rain. Here are the updated details.

As heavy rain moves into Connecticut today and tonight the major concern is flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the entire state. Connecticut will be in a very stormy and unsettled weather pattern through Tuesday. It appears the weather will improve on Wednesday of next week.
For Southern Connecticut, the weather service says,"Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop over the area today into tonight. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour are possible. An average of 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is likely across much of the region, with locally 3 to 5 inches possible through tonight.
* Areas of urban and poor drainage flooding are likely, with flash flooding possible in locations that experience successive thunderstorms moving through.

* With 2 to 5 inches of rainfall since the start of the month, the river basins of .... Southwestern Connecticut are particularly vulnerable to flash flooding. This is especially true for areas along quick responding creeks, streams and small rivers that are already running at above normal levels for this time of year.
For Northern Connecticut, the weather service says, "Periods of showers along with embedded thunderstorms will impact the region today and tonight with localized torrential rainfall. The potential exists for these heavy showers to train over the same locations. This will bring the risk for localized flash flooding, including some small rivers and streams. Localized urban flash flooding is also possible. (Keep up with CT events and local news by subscribing to Patch to receive free daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)
