'When The Ice Breaks, It Comes Thundering Down the River'
Living in 'iceland,' Greenwich style.

So Greenwich Patch asked readers to submit their winter photos after one reader shared gorgeous of Greenwich’s version of Niagara Falls.
Dorothy D’Amato who lives on the shores of the Byram River on Upland Street East took us up on the offer.
Here’s what she has to say about living on the river for more than five decades through the seasons.

“The entire Byram River is frozen. This is my backyard and the river is frozen up to the first falls.
We have lived here since 1957 and have lived with the many moods of this river. When the ice breaks it comes thundering down the river to the mouth of Caroline Pond and stacks up chunk of ice upon chunk of ice, which is my backyard, and when it happens in the middle of the night it is like an earthquake.

The pond and river have not been this frozen in quite a few years. It is quite beautiful especially when the sun shines on the river. The ducks and gulls have only the little bit of water they managed to keep open in the middle of the pond.”
And you can do what Dorothy did, email your ‘Frozen Greenwich’ photos to barbara.heins@patch.com. We love to see what you’re experiencing around town and share it with your fellow Greenwich Patchers.
