Woman Struck By Car, Injured In Greenwich: Police

GREENWICH, CT — A woman was struck and injured by a car while trying to cross the street in central Greenwich early Tuesday evening, according to police.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on West Putnam Avenue near the top of Greenwich Avenue. An initial investigation showed that the woman had parked her car along the northern side of West Putnam Avenue and began to walk southbound across four lanes of traffic to get to a restaurant on the other side of the roadway, police said.

A car heading westbound on West Putnam Avenue started to move forward after having to stop for a vehicle that turned left down Greenwich Avenue, police said.

The car was going approximately 25 mph when it struck the woman, who was wearing dark clothing and not within or near a crosswalk, according to police. The speed limit in the area is 30 mph.

The woman suffered injuries to her head and leg, although police said they were non-life threatening. She was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment. Police did not specify the age of the woman.
