YMCA of Greenwich Holds 21st Annual Golf Outing
The Lou Ferraro Golf Classic was held recently at Tamarack Country Club.
The YMCA of Greenwich held its 21st annual golf outing recently at Tamarack Country Club. The tournament celebrated its 7th year in honoring the late Lou Ferraro, a longtime YMCA member and supporter. The event, hosted by his son Jim Ferraro, raises funds to support YMCA programming and services.
Thirty-two foursomes participated in the shotgun start, which also included hole-in-one and putting competition. Afterwards, golfers and guests enjoyed a lively cocktail reception and dinner, during which honors were given to the recipients of two annual YMCA Awards.
Deutsche Bank Alex Brown Managing Director, Tony Fagella, was this year’s recipient of the Lou Ferraro YMCA Excellence Award, honoring individuals from the Greenwich community who support the YMCA’s mission and cause. Fagella was a member of the YMCA Board of Directors for four years until 2014, three of which he served as Treasurer. His hard work through tough financial times was instrumental in steering the YMCA to success.
Jim Ferraro presented Jim Cabrera with The YMCA of Greenwich Legacy Award, honoring those who make the next 100 years at the Y possible. Cabrera served on the YMCA Board of Directors for nine years, three as its Chairman.
“Jim played a crucial role in getting the construction at the Y finished,” said YMCA CEO Ed Philipp, “If it weren’t for Jim and some very generous donors, the Y would not be out of debt. We will be forever grateful for his loyalty, hard work, and optimistic attitude”.
