John Joseph (Jack) Condron, Jr.

John Joseph (Jack) Condron, Jr., 47, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012.  Always one to challenge himself, his final act of daring was to ignore evacuation advice and ride out Hurricane Sandy at his home in Groton Long Point.

Jack was born in Hartford, CT on August 10, 1965, the son of Marguerite Hutchinson and John Joseph Condron, Sr.  He attended Groton schools, graduating from Fitch Senior High School in 1983.  Jack also attended Thames Valley State Technical College where he studied mechanical engineering.

As mentioned earlier, Jack loved pushing himself to the limit.  He went kayaking in the dead of winter, he raced his bicycle up Mt. Washington, he skied, he skydived, he skateboarded.  If it seemed dangerous, Jack wanted to try it.  He wore his scars the way athletes wear their medals.

Jack’s hobbies included riding his motorcycle and exploring the local waterways in his boat.  He loved to see the seals sunning themselves on the rocks.  For many years he participated in the New Year’s Day Fun Run, starting in Mystic and culminating in a dip in the ocean at Groton Long Point often joined by his children and friends.

Besides his parents; Jack is survived by his wife, Nanci; his daughter, Justine and her fiancé, Matthew Guarrasi; his son, John Joseph III and his girlfriend, Emily Vaill Bickford; his sister, Laurene and her husband, Tim Sullivan; nieces, Susan and Colleen and also his first wife, Laura.  Jack had so many friends, it would be impossible to mention them all.  Had he the chance, he would definitely have wanted to say one last goodbye to Joe, Eric, Tina, and Jeff and also brother-in-law, David.  The family also wishes to especially thank brother-in-law, Matthew for his kindness, his advice and counsel.

Jack’s faithful pup, Howard was beside his master and pal until the very end.  It’s comforting to think that Jack is now at peace and happily reunited with his old friends, Barley and Zeke at the Rainbow Bridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Groton Animal Foundation, Inc., PO Box 7023, Groton, CT 06340 or at their website, www.grotonanimalfoundation.org.

A celebration of Jack’s life will take place at the Groton Long Point Casino, 50 Beach Road, Groton, at noon on Saturday Nov. 10, 2012.  The family would like to have motorcyclist friends gather at the Seaport Community Church, 100 Daboll Rd, Groton, also at noon for a memorial ride to the casino where they will be greeted by the other guests.  In keeping with Jack’s casual nature, please bring a favorite party dish to share.
