Autopsy Underway For Dead Man In Groton Armed Standoff: Update
The suspect reportedly discharged a handgun inside the home multiple times. BREAKING.

GROTON, CT — An armed standoff between Groton and state law enforcement and a local man ended Wednesday afternoon after officers found the suspect dead inside his Orion Avenue home, according to Connecticut State Police.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was had been in the home since Tuesday night. A police tactical team entered at about 12:05 p.m. and found him.
Details of how he was found were not immediately available, but state police released the following statement about the standoff's conclusion:

"The barricaded subject in this incident was located deceased inside the residence at approximately 12:05 today. At this time Groton Police will be continuing as lead in the investigation, the State Police will continue to assist as needed. An autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death. Further information will be forthcoming."
No other injuries were reported. The man reportedly had discharged a handgun inside the home Tuesday night, and a woman, who state police said was the suspect's wife, and two children were removed from the home Tuesday night by Groton police officers.

The Day reports that at one point on Tuesday night, authorities detonated a flash bang grenade inside the home in an effort to roust the suspect.
The standoff lasted about 17 hours.
From the original story: "At this time the incident remains active, but the scope is limited to the immediate area," wrote state police in a release Wednesday morning. "Law Enforcement personnel from Groton, State Police with assistance from the FBI and NCIS continue to work to resolve this matter.
"Although there is no immediate threat to people in the area that are still in their homes, out of an abundance of caution, we ask that area residents remain in their homes."
The incident began at about 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday when Groton police officers were dispatched to the Orion Avenue home on a report of a disturbance.
"Upon arrival officers met with a female who advised that her husband, the subject, was within the residence, that he was armed with a handgun and had discharged the handgun within the home," wrote state police. "Officers removed the female and 2 young children to a safe location, set up a perimeter and evacuated area residents with assistance from several mutual aid police departments. It had been determined that the subject was alone in the residence with a firearm.
"Officers called for assistance from the Connecticut State Police, Emergency Services Unit – Tactical Team. After arrival of the Tactical Team numerous attempts were made to contact the subject via cell phone and other means. During the time that officers were on scene they observed movement within the residence."
