GROTON, CT — The City of Groton will move its municipal elections to November in accordance with a new state law, according to The New London Day. The City of Groton has held municipal elections in May since 1903.

The measure, which was passed as part of the state's June 2021 budget bill, mandates all municipal elections be held in November of odd years unless the towns opt out.

A measure to hold elections in May 2023 and seek voter input on the November ballot failed at a recent City Council meeting by a 2-2 vote with one abstention. The measure would have needed a 3/4 majority to move forward.
