Correct errors w/ Groton RTM system....Vote YES for new Charter

This describes a major budget error and lack of transparency involving a $5 million "shortfall" that never materialized.

I’m urging Groton’s taxpayers to approve the charter revision on the ballot this election. As a former state

representative for the 41st District I know something about government
budgets. Here’s an example of where the Town Council and the RTM both
failed us and probably very few people are aware of it.
I was very upset that council and RTM approved an inflated 2018 budget
with funds that were added to cover a short-fall from the State of
Connecticut that NEVER materialized. The town never returned those funds
to the taxpayers when they received full funding from the state in
2017. Then the council proceeded to build the $5 million into the 2018
budget that the taxpayers needlessly paid. In old fashion language this
amounts to a double dip and an independent Board of Finance would have
alerted us to this one.
I’m ready for a change, it’s time we had a say in town spending. I urge Groton voters to vote "yes" on the charter revision.
