CT Representative Praises Funding For Groton PD, Nautilus Dock

Christine Conley praised the State Bond Commission's approval to reimburse the Groton Town Police Department for purchasing body cameras.

GROTON, CT - State Rep. Christine Conley (Democrat-Groton/Ledyard) praised the State Bond Commission’s approval Wednesday of $730,000 in funding for a new Nautilus Dock, $54,400 for a new Thames Street Dock and $98,998 to reimburse the Groton Town Police Department for the purchase of body cameras and video storage devices.

The Nautilus Dock will allow a water taxi to bring visitors out to the USS Nautilus, a major tourist attraction. Funding for both the Nautilus and Thames Street docks comes from the Small Harbor Improvement Projects Program, according to a release.

“The USS Nautilus is a major driver of tourism and economic activity for Groton, which in turn brings in revenue for the state," Conley said in a release. "The new dock will have a positive economic impact and enhance public access to one of our state’s most treasured historic attractions."

The police department funding is part of a larger $1.7 million bonding item to reimburse 14 police departments throughout the state for video equipment. The Groton Town Police Department purchased its equipment in June.

“Improving the safety of our residents and first responders is always a worthwhile investment, and I’m glad that this funding has been made a priority,” Conley said. “This technology does not come cheap, and the reimbursement allows the police department to make these upgrades without sacrificing elsewhere.”
