Election 2016 Results: Groton Vote Totals for President, U.S. Senate and Local Races

On Wednesday morning, full election results and numbers were released for all races that residents voted on.

GROTON, CT — On Election Night, 55.07 percent of residents preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein.

According to the CT Secretary of State election center updated via 10 a.m. Wednesday, 8,439 residents voted for Clinton and 5,929 voted for Trump. Johnson additionally received 660 votes, while Stein received 272.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., amassed 8,618 as a Democratic candidate and 909 as a Working Families Party candidate.

Republican candidate Dan Carter meanwhile received 4,592 votes. The race was rounded out with 256 votes for Richard Lion and 171 votes for Jefferey Russell.

Democrat Joe Courtney crushed Republican candidate Daria Novak in the 2nd Congressional District race, with Courtney earning 10,260 votes on multiple lines. Novak amassed 3,864 votes, while Libertarian Daniel Reale received 223 votes and Green Party candidate Jonathan Pelto received 192.

In Groton, Republican candidate Heather Somers declared victory over Democratic candidate Tim Bowles for the 18th Senatorial District. Somers garnered 6,968 votes as a Republican candidate and 604 votes as an Independent candidate, while Bowles amassed 6,303 votes as a Democratic candidate and 456 votes as a Working Families Party candidate.

In the 41st State House District, Democratic candidate Joe de la Cruz ousted Republican incumbent Aundre Bumgardner. De la Cruz earned 4,015 votes as a Democratic candidate and 371 votes as a Working Families Party canddiate, while Bumgardner received 3,550 votes as a Republican candidate and 234 votes as an Independent candidate.

In the 40th State House District, Democrat Christine Conley defeated Republican incumbent John F. Scott. Conley received 3,444 votes on multiple lines, while Scott received 2,774 votes on multiple lines.

Democrat Paul Duarte received 6,942 votes and Republican Kristen Venditti received 6,814 votes for registrar of voters.
