Experience: Town Council
Family in government: I have family members in the military. I am the only one in my family involved in politics.
The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
Ensuring that the goals of the 2020 plan are being followed through for the benefit of all. I will continue to critique and advocate for all children in our town through my work as a Councilor and as a liaison to the Board of Education.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
I do not like the phrase critical differences and we all have different perspectives. My life experiences have put me in a unique position to move Groton forward. It is a matter of being respectful and mindful of each person’s time. We are all volunteers and care about Groton.
Accomplishments:
I served on the RTM (Representative Town Committee) from 2013 to 2017 for District 2 and served on the Public Safety Committee. I have been a Town Councilor for Groton since 2017. I am currently part of the Groton DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) committee and a board member of the TVCCA. I just became a Connecticut Certified Municipal Official. With that being said, as part of the Town Council, and I would like to continue the projects we have set forth.
Other issues:
I would like to see more mom & pop style businesses in Groton. We need to encourage more of these types of businesses in Groton. As Groton is a diverse town, I believe our businesses should reflect our community and provide economic opportunities and encourage our youth to higher aspirations. The health and welfare of our community members is very important to me. I would like to see more support for all our citizens no matter the age, and race or gender. I value all and want to ensure that all have support and access to a more livable life.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
As a woman of color and a professional public servant, I’ve worked hard to ensure that I was doing what was best for me, my family and my community. When my girls were younger, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies while working full time and volunteering in my community. For many years, and I have served in the children’s ministry at my church and other committees helping the children. I believe in giving back to my community and trying to be a positive role model for my children and others in my community.
