Groton Election 2016 Results: Winners Revealed in Local Races

GROTON, CT -- Results are coming in for a number of electoral races across the board in Groton, both on a local and national scale.
On the ballot, registered voters in Groton were able to select candidates for president and vice president, United States senator, representatives to U.S. Congress, state senator, state representative and registrar of voters.
The line for same-day voter registration was reportedly out the door close to noon, according to Nathan Lynch of the New London Day. He also reported that 1340 people had already voted at the Mary Morrison School by 11 a.m.

In Groton, Republican candidate Heather Somers declared victory over Democratic candidate Tim Bowles for the 18th Senatorial District, as reported by the Norwich Bulletin. Somers had previously served as mayor of Groton from 2011 to 2013.
In the 40th State House District, Democrat Christine Conley defeated Republican incumbent John F. Scott, as reported by The Day. Conley, an attorney with Lori M. Comforti and member of Groton's Representative Town Meeting, has advocated looking at ways the state could pay for services more economically.

In the 41st State House District, Democratic candidate Joe de la Cruz ousted Republican incumbent Aundre Bumgardner, as reported by The Day.
The registrar of voters in Groton is between Democrat Paul Duarte and Republican Kristen Venditti.
