Groton Explores Redeveloping Former School Property

The town is moving forward with a developer for a property where a school closed nearly 20 years ago.

GROTON, CT — The town is seeking to redevelop the former Groton Heights School property "into a vibrant use that will contribute to the Town’s tax base, goals, and vitality," according to GreaterGroton.com.

The Town Council finalized the selection of Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities as the preferred developer at a meeting Tuesday. A public hearing will be held April 7.

Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities is pitching affordable housing at the site.

The town intends to apply for a $1.5 million brownfield remediation grant from the state for remediation of the property to make way for redevelopment, according to The Day of New London.

Groton Heights School closed in 2007.
